FAMILY AND HOME A child who points out our owntone has been listening well. Asma Balfaqih asmabalfaqih.com

You spoke loudly, my son said once in the middle of a demanding afternoon. He was right, and I would have liked to explain why.

Instead I simply confirmed it. Yes, that was loud, I am sorry. Children learn more about responsibility from such moments than from any story.

A child who sees that adults can apologise will be able to do it later. It is uncomfortable and still the most effective lesson in the whole house.
